FFL Transfers

Before purchasing a firearm, please check to make sure you meet all the eligibility requirements: https://www.atf.gov/firearms/identify-prohibited-persons

What is an FFL Transfer? When you purchase a firearm from out-of-state or online, it is required by federal law that the purchaser have that firearm transferred to a dealer with a Federal Firearms License (FFL). The dealer will then run a background check before releasing the firearm to the buyer unless they have a Texas LTC.

Inbound FFL Transfers (if you purchased a firearm and need to have it shipped to an FFL for transfer to you):

Review the following carefully before having any firearm shipped to Dry Creek Arms.

STEP 1: Before shipping the firearm, contact Dry Creek Arms for pre-approval/authorization for an FFL transfer via one of the following methods:

STEP 2: Order and pay for your firearm
When purchasing a firearm online, during the checkout process, you will typically be asked to provide your chosen FFL’s info (If purchasing on GunBroker.com or other online websites, please note that we are a registered FFL. You will be able to select our FFL at checkout.)

• If searching by FFL number, you are typically asked to enter the first 3 digits and the last 5, like so:

STEP 3: Dry Creek Arms will contact you once we have received your firearm(s) and make arrangements with you to complete the transfer process.

• Note that Dry Creek Arms will ONLY transfer the firearm to the individual whose name is listed on the packing slip; we will not engage in Straw Purchases.
  • “Straw Purchases” – An illegal firearm purchase where the actual buyer of the gun, being unable to pass the required federal background check or desiring not to have his/her/their name associated with the transaction, uses a proxy buyer who can pass the required background check to purchase the firearm for him/her/them; this is highly illegal and punishable by a $250,000 fine and 10 years in prison.

STEP 4: When you come pick up your shipment, please be prepared with/to do the following:

• Bring your valid ID, Texas DL and/or Texas LTC
• Complete an ATF 4473 form
• Complete the NICS background check
• Pay the $35 transfer fee
  • Transfer fees for each additional firearm included in the same shipment are an additional $10

STEP 5: Enjoy your purchase and refer your friends and family to Dry Creek Arms!

INBOUND FFL TRANSFER STORAGE POLICY:

• All inbound FFL transfers are expected to be picked up within 30 days unless prior arrangements are made in writing
• All inbound FFL transfers that have not been picked up within 30 days will be subject to a storage fee of $25 per item, per month or any part of a month thereafter
• Any FFL transfers that have not been picked up within 90 days are considered abandoned and will become the property of Dry Creek Arms, and may be subject to being sold to cover storage and other expenses without compensation to the transferee

Outgoing FFL Transfers (if you need to ship a firearm to an FFL Dealer for transfer to a buyer):
Review the following carefully before having any firearm shipped from Dry Creek Arms.

STEP 1: Contact your buyer (the person receiving your firearm) and have them contact an FFL Dealer local to their area to handle their inbound transfer. FFL Dealers can be found here: https://www.ffldealernetwork.com/home

STEP 2: Contact Dry Creek Arms to discuss your shipment via one of the following methods:

• Submit your info via the electronic form on this page; Dry Creek Arms will contact you to approve your transfer

STEP 3: Bring your firearm(s) to Dry Creek Arms for shipment. We will need:

• The buyer’s name, address, phone number and email address
• The sales record – this is to be placed in the shipping box for the receiving FFL Dealer
• The FFL Dealer’s name, FFL #, address, phone number and email address

STEP 4: Pay the transfer fee and shipping/insurance fees

• Handgun/Long Gun Transfers: $60 + the actual costs of shipping and handling plus insurance and signature confirmation fees

STEP 5: If are satisfied with your experience, please refer your friends and family to Dry Creek Arms!

Face-to-Face (Private Sale) Transfers (a firearm sale to an in-person buyer in our secure location, complete with a background check on the buyer for safety and peace of mind):

STEP 1: Contact Dry Creek Arms to make an appointment for an in-person private sale via one of the following methods:

STEP 2: Meet your buyer at the appointed time at our location with your sale items

• The buyer should be prepared with/to do the following:
  • Their valid ID, Texas DL, and/or Texas LTC
  • Buyer will complete an ATF 4473 form
  • Buyer will complete an NICS background check

STEP 3: Pay the Private Sale/Background Check Fee of $35 to Dry Creek Arms

STEP 4: If you are satisfied with the sales process, please refer your friends and family to Dry Creek Arms!
